Summary

The Wisconsin Civic Engagement Project (WCEP) is a coalition of progressive nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations  who represent a broad range of issue based work but are working together to increase civic engagement.  Currently thirty-one partner organizations are participating in the Project.

WCEP is staffed by a full time director who coordinates the c3 table activities with the following primary responsibilities:  to develop and implement a sustainable c3 table model; to develop and implement a regional progressive strategic plan; to coordinate civic engagement table projects and outreach; to support progressive partners with shared resources and to develop a plan for ongoing financial viability.

WCEP is also an active participant in the Center for Civic Participation’s State Voices initiative, which works to share information between nonpartisan state based civic and voter engagement 501(c)3 networks or tables, and helps local leadership identify and obtain the tools necessary to easily share a central voter file.

At this time, WCEP is primarily a regional table based in Southeast Wisconsin, with increasing table work being done in Northeast Wisconsin.  WCEP is currently in the process of organizing a third regional table in Madison/Dane County.  There are three key outcomes we will continue to measure in 2009: 1) increased percentage of voters flagged on the civic engagement file as underrepresented or progressive; 2) increased turnout of underrepresented and progressive voters; and 3) increased cost savings for organizations through specific shared services.
