Courtney Chappell has joined State Voices as the Senior Director of State Capacity Building.
Courtney comes to us from The Center for Asian Pacific American Women in Seattle, where she was the Executive Director. She has spent most of her career in the public interest sector, advocating for women of color and vulnerable populations on a variety of issues. Her impressive background includes serving as Deputy Director at the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, where she created a regional interagency working group that brought the federal government to the farthest corners of the country. She also served as the Deputy Director at the DC Employment Justice Center where she helped to pass comprehensive unemployment insurance legislation and a “ban the box” bill that prohibited discrimination against workers with criminal records.
Courtney’s role at State Voices will be multi-faceted, and will take full advantage of her years of experience in community organizing, coalition building, policy advocacy, and creating training programs.
