Wisconsin Voices is currently field-testing an innovative app to augment the state’s online voter registration system.
While any online voter registration (OVR) system is a step towards more accessible elections, Wisconsin Voices noticed two key weaknesses with Wisconsin’s OVR. First, people without a driver’s license or state ID have to go through a cumbersome process that involves snail-mailing the clerk’s office. Second, for groups registering people through voter registration drives, there is no way to track and follow up with new registrants.
Wisconsin Voices’ app solves both of these problems. It removes any hassle for voters without a driver’s license/ID. A third-party vendor prints and submits any necessary paperwork, making registration easy and hassle free for all Wisconsin Voters.
Crucially, it also allows groups to follow up with newly registered voters, strengthening GOTV efforts and building relationships beyond elections. Additionally, everyone who opts in through the app is immediately signed up to Wisconsin Voices‘ text messaging list—meaning the table can communicate with them instantly.
The table is planning a statewide launch for the app in June. Along with the VP of the Milwaukee Bucks, they’re also hosting an app launch party on May 9th. You can buy tickets/sponsorships here! For more information about this app, please contact Dana Schultz at [email protected].
