March 16, 2020 Update:

The State Voices DCP Onsite Training scheduled March 23-March 27 in Detroit, MI has been canceled due to the impact of the coronavirus.

Instead, State Voices will host a virtual training for State Tables and partners starting in mid-to-late April. The application deadline has been extended to April 3—please apply at this link!

Our staff will contact partners who have already purchased flights hotels for further guidance. We apologize for the inconvenience, and will return with more trainings soon.

At State Voices, we aim to democratize technology. Technology and data are often used to further oppress Black people, Indigenous people, and other people of color. We must invest in BIPOC organizers and their ideas about what digital tools and strategies we should explore, while making sure technology, tools, training, and resources are in the hands of people experiencing oppression in society.

That’s why State Voices is hosting our second annual Data Certification Program. The DCP Onsite Training was going to be held Tuesday, March 24 to Friday, March 27, 2020 in Detroit, MI, but will now be online due to COVID-19. This training will cover advanced data and digital organizing skills beyond NGP VAN.

About the Program

The Data Certification Program Onsite is a training for field, program, and data staff, and other organizers to grow in their ability to use data and digital tools to foster positive change in their communities.

Participants will learn how to interpret and use different data sources, tools, and vendors; manage their data using Microsoft Excel and SQL; present their data with visualizations and maps; and best practices to keep their community’s data safe.

This training is ideal for participants who have a solid understanding of using data to power their organizing work, including VAN and basic Excel.
