Montana Voices is a civic engagement project committed to ensuring that every Montanan is able to participate fully in our democracy. Our mission is to collaborate on programs related to civic access, voting rights, voter modernization efforts, civic engagement and leadership development. Our mission is centered on engaging and empowering underrepresented communities, building sustainable power needed to eliminate barriers to civic participation, and guaranteeing that policy-making is guided by the public.
Montana Voices collaborates with partners around the following areas:
Civic Access: Monitor legislative efforts related to voting rights and develop strategies to remove barriers to voting access; engage in voter protection efforts to ensure disenfranchised groups can access the ballot; organize and implement voter modernization programs and policies, including Automatic Voter Registration and Online Voter Registration, that help achieve equal ballot access to all Montanans.
Civic Engagement: Implement voter registration, education, and mobilization programs for the election cycle and beyond; increase electoral and civic participation and access among historically disenfranchised communities and New American Majority voters.
Civic Representation: Organize a 2020 census working group to develop a statewide strategy to educate Montanans in hard-to-count communities about the decennial census and ensure an accurate count in an historically undercounted state.
Leadership Development: Oversee a leadership development program to help organizations recruit and train a pipeline of future progressive leaders; cultivate a ladder of engagement for activists and public officials to continue to engage more proactively in public service.
